GRP laminate parts made to order

Finished laminate parts from our own moulds — from the CNC plug, through the mould, to parts as one-offs or in series. Large parts too, up to 16 m in length.

Laminate parts — from plug to finished part

By laminate we mean fibre-reinforced plastic (GRP composite) — the material used for boat hulls and decks, not laminate flooring or HPL panels. We cover the whole chain: CNC plug, laminate mould and finished parts from that mould. See also our CNC milling and composite moulds.

  • Finished GRP laminate parts — one-offs or series
  • Dimensionally stable laminate moulds, polished to a high gloss
  • CNC plugs in MDF or foam with paste, sanded by hand
  • Large parts — plugs machined up to 16 m in length
  • Mould inspection with a 3D scanner against the CAD model
  • Shipyard experience — we build our own Lamdo Yachts

From CNC plug to laminate part

Three photos of one job: the CNC-milled plug, the laminate mould made on it and the finished part released from the mould.

What we make in laminate

One supplier from your 3D file to the finished composite part.

01

Finished parts from the mould

Laminate parts formed in the mould — from a single piece to a series.

02

Laminate moulds

Dimensionally stable mould with a surface polished to a high gloss, used to produce further parts.

03

Plugs for moulds

Plug CNC-milled from MDF or from foam coated with paste, then sanded by hand.

04

Large parts

Our 5-axis machine with a 10 000 × 3700 × 1700 mm envelope machines plugs up to 16 m — e.g. boat hulls and decks.

05

3D scanner inspection

We compare the mould with the CAD model using a 3D scanner before production starts.

06

3D scan & CAD/CAM

No file? We 3D-scan the existing part and prepare the model with our in-house CAD/CAM support.

Three CNC machines — from mid-size parts to 16 m

3- and 5-axis milling, large-format 3D printing and machining up to 16 m in length. The machines run three shifts, which keeps lead times short on large jobs too.

5-axis CNC with large-format 3D printing

Simultaneous 5-axis machining of complex shapes, sculptures and moulds in a single set-up. The same machine prints large parts in polymer.

  • Working envelope: 4100 × 2100 × 1000 mm
  • Precision: 0.1 mm
  • 3D printing: up to 12 kg/h
  • Materials: wood, MDF, foam, composites, plastics
LAMDO 3-axis CNC router with a 4000 × 2000 × 500 mm working envelope

3-axis CNC for cutting and series

A large bed for sheet material, flat parts and nested cutting — fast turnaround for one-offs and series production.

  • Working envelope: 4000 × 2000 × 500 mm
  • Sheet cutting and flat parts
  • One-offs and series
  • Materials: wood, MDF, plywood, plastics
LAMDO large-format 5-axis gantry CNC machine for parts up to 16 m

Large-format 5-axis CNC

Our largest machine, built for hulls, moulds and large structures. Parts up to 16 m in length.

  • Working envelope: 10 000 × 3700 × 1700 mm
  • Machining up to 16 m in length
  • Simultaneous 5-axis machining
  • Hulls, decks, moulds, large structures

3D scan

No file? We 3D-scan your part.

03

CNC plug

Milled from MDF, or from foam with paste.

04

Hand sanding

The plug is sanded and finished by hand.

05

Mould

Dimensionally stable laminate, polished to a high gloss.

Questions about laminate parts

What do you mean by laminate parts?

Parts made of fibre-reinforced plastic (GRP composite) formed in a mould — not laminate flooring or HPL panels. We make the CNC plug, the laminate mould and the finished parts from that mould.

Do you make one-offs or only series?

Both. We produce parts from the finished mould as one-offs or in series — the mould stays available for repeat orders.

How large can a laminate part be?

Our largest machine — a 5-axis CNC with a 10 000 × 3700 × 1700 mm working envelope — machines plugs up to 16 m in length. That lets us make large parts too, such as boat hulls and decks.

I have no mould or plug. Where do you start?

From a 3D file (STEP, IGES, STL, DXF), a drawing or a photo. If you have an existing part, we 3D-scan it and build the model from the scan. CAD/CAM support is in-house.

How do you check the accuracy of the mould?

We inspect the mould with a 3D scanner and compare it with the CAD model before we start producing parts from it.

Where does your laminate experience come from?

We build our own yachts under the Lamdo Yachts name, so we know composite production from the shipyard side — from the hull plug to finished parts from the mould. Since 2018 we have completed more than 600 orders.
