From concept model to production mould

We mill body models and prototypes on a 5-axis machine, 3D-print large parts and finish them by milling. When the project goes into production, we make the mould and the parts from it.

  • Body models and concept models
  • Prototypes in modelling board, wood and plastics
  • Large-format 3D printing + CNC finishing
  • Composite moulds for producing parts
  • 3D scan of the part when there is no file
  • One-off and series production

What we make for the automotive industry

One supplier: scan, model, print, mould and finished part.

01

Body models

5-axis milled models — complex surfaces in a single set-up, precision 0.1 mm.

02

Prototypes

Prototypes and concept models, e.g. a racing car model made of Prolab boards.

03

Component models

Models of individual components — e.g. a fuel tank model in solid wood.

04

Moulds for parts

A CNC plug with a dimensionally stable laminate mould built on it, polished to a high gloss.

05

3D printing + CNC

A fast print of a near-net shape; the required accuracy comes from milling.

06

3D scan

We scan an existing part and prepare the model when there is no documentation.

We print large prototypes — and finish them by milling

On our 5-axis machine with a 3D printing head we quickly print a near-net shape, and achieve the required accuracy by CNC milling.

More about 3D printing

Three CNC machines — from mid-size parts to 16 m

3- and 5-axis milling, large-format 3D printing and machining up to 16 m in length. The machines run three shifts, which keeps lead times short on large jobs too.

5-axis CNC with large-format 3D printing

Simultaneous 5-axis machining of complex shapes, sculptures and moulds in a single set-up. The same machine prints large parts in polymer.

  • Working envelope: 4100 × 2100 × 1000 mm
  • Precision: 0.1 mm
  • 3D printing: up to 12 kg/h
  • Materials: wood, MDF, foam, composites, plastics
LAMDO 3-axis CNC router with a 4000 × 2000 × 500 mm working envelope

3-axis CNC for cutting and series

A large bed for sheet material, flat parts and nested cutting — fast turnaround for one-offs and series production.

  • Working envelope: 4000 × 2000 × 500 mm
  • Sheet cutting and flat parts
  • One-offs and series
  • Materials: wood, MDF, plywood, plastics
LAMDO large-format 5-axis gantry CNC machine for parts up to 16 m

Large-format 5-axis CNC

Our largest machine, built for hulls, moulds and large structures. Parts up to 16 m in length.

  • Working envelope: 10 000 × 3700 × 1700 mm
  • Machining up to 16 m in length
  • Simultaneous 5-axis machining
  • Hulls, decks, moulds, large structures

From file or scan to finished part

We work from documentation, a 3D model or individual arrangements. We advise on the process and mould splits.

01

3D file or drawing

We discuss the project and choose the process.

02

3D scan

No file? We scan your part.

03

CNC plug

We mill the plug — MDF, or foam with paste.

04

Finishing

The plug is sanded by hand.

05

Mould

Dimensionally stable laminate, polished to a high gloss.

06

3D inspection

A 3D scanner compares the mould with the CAD model.

07

Finished parts

Parts from the mould — one-offs and series.

Only need a model or prototype? We stop at whichever stage you need.

Models and prototypes from our workshop

Examples of CNC-milled models — in modelling board, wood and laminate.

Fast. Accurate. Flexible.

01

One supplier, one responsibility

File, 3D scan, plug, mould and finished parts — the whole chain in one workshop.

02

Machines run three shifts

Shorter lead times, including on large orders.

03

3D scanner inspection

Every mould is compared with the CAD model before it goes into production.

04

Shipyard experience

We build our own boats under the Lamdo Yachts name, so we know composites from the inside.

05

One-offs and series

From a single prototype to repeatable production from one mould.

06

600+ orders since 2018

Plugs, moulds, prototypes and large-format parts for clients across many industries.

Questions from the automotive industry

What models and prototypes do you make for the automotive industry?

Body models, prototypes and concept models, as well as moulds for producing parts. Examples from our workshop: a racing car model made of Prolab boards and a fuel tank model in solid wood.

How accurately do you mill?

Our 5-axis machine (working envelope 4100 × 2100 × 1000 mm) works to a precision of 0.1 mm with simultaneous 5-axis machining — including complex surfaces in a single set-up.

Can you 3D-print a prototype?

Yes. We print large-format at up to 12 kg/h in a 4100 × 2100 × 1000 mm envelope — in PE and PP, also with carbon, glass or natural fibre, and on request in ABS, PLA, PA, PC, PET, PPS, PEEK and PEKK. The print is finished by CNC milling on the same machine.

We have a physical part but no 3D documentation. What next?

We scan the part with a 3D scanner and use the scan to prepare a model for milling or for a mould.

Can you make a mould and a series of composite parts?

Yes. We mill the plug, build a dimensionally stable laminate mould on it, polished to a high gloss, check it with a 3D scanner against the CAD model, and then produce parts — one-offs and series.

How large a model can you make?

Our largest machine has a working envelope of 10 000 × 3700 × 1700 mm and machines parts up to 16 m in length. Send us the dimensions of your project — we will choose the machine and the process.
